Scholes: I would have joined Oldham

Paul Scholes has revealed he would have joined boyhood club Oldham had he felt fit enough to continue playing.

The former Manchester United and England midfielder brought the curtain down on a glittering career by retiring in May.

"I'm disappointed I never got the chance to play at Boundary Park," he told the club's official website.

"I thought I might get the chance to appear in a cup game, but sadly it didn't happen.


 

"I think people assumed that because I'm an Oldham fan and I'm from Oldham that I would finish my career with them, though there was never any contact.

"If I felt I could have played on, and Oldham was an option, I would definitely have joined them."
