Luka Modric: Main Man Not Moving

If this summer’s transfer reports are anything to go by, one could easily assume that Premier League life is currently not quite right in North London.

Arsenal’s Gael Clichy has already packed his bags and unpacked them in Manchester, Cesc Fabregas is on the verge of a move to Barcelona and Samir Nasri is believed to be at the travel agents at this very moment; perusing flights to Manchester, Chelsea, Milan and God knows elsewhere.

Betting on football transfers is a notorious mainstay of the English summer though, and in the white half of town Tottenham’s Luka Modric is the focus of attention.

He has already made clear his intentions of joining Premier League rivals Chelsea and the Tottenham faithful will also be praying they hear not a peep from Gareth Bale until well after the opening game of next season.

Chairman Daniel Levy has told 25-year-old Modric that he will not be moving anywhere this summer after crunch talks on Wednesday. The midfielder’s agent has also assured Spurs fans that Modric will not be handing in a transfer request.

Whether that puts an end to all transfer talk is another matter however, with both Chelsea and Manchester United in possession of a huge transfer kitty. And that’s before we’ve even started on Manchester City.

Gareth Bale is yet to attract any bids from Europe’s top clubs – perhaps thanks to his end of season injury which he is yet to recover from – but there should still be plenty of transfer activity to come from the Lane.

Sergio Aguero has recently stated his desire to leave Atletico Madrid and has been on Tottenham’s raider for a while. Yet the man on show in the Copa America would no doubt demand an exorbitant transfer fee; the size of which could perhaps only be mustered were Spurs to offload the man they so desperately want to keep.
