Carlisle's teenage midfielder Ben McKenna is expected to miss the start of the new season due to an ankle injury.

The 19-year-old, handed his first professional contract last summer, has been ruled out for up to four weeks after damaging ankle ligaments during his summer break.

Carlisle manager Greg Abbott said: "Ben has been unlucky, but it's just one of those things."

He added: "He's a fit lad so hopefully he'll recover quickly.

"We can then get him back out on to the training ground."

McKenna has yet to start for the Cumbrians, but made his first-team breakthrough with two substitute appearances last season.
