Schalke have tabled an offer for reported Liverpool target Nolan Roux, it has been claimed.
According to talkSPORT, the Bundesliga side have made a bid of £6 million for the Stade Brest striker, who has been attracting interest from Merseyside.
The 23-year-old scored six times for Brest in Ligue 1 last season and is also alleged to be on the respective radars of Lille and Sochaux.
But Schalke have made the early running for the Frenchman by formalising their interest in Roux, which could spark Liverpool and others into action.
It had originally been suggested by the Daily Mail that Liverpool had been planning an offer of their own for Roux, and it would now appear the Anfield club may have to prepare a counter-offer to scupper Schalke's proposal.
After completing the signing of Jordan Henderson in early June, Liverpool endured a quiet month in the transfer market until confirming the signing of Charlie Adam on Thursday - although it remains unclear if Roux will follow suit.
Liverpool have also had an offer rejected for Aston Villa winger Stewart Downing, but have been tipped to return with an improved offer.
