Manchester United striker Federico Macheda has revealed on Twitter that he is looking forward to Wesley Sneijder joining the club on their pre-season tour of America.

The Italian under-21 international, who spent last season on loan at Sampdoria, revealed via the social network side that Sneijder, who has been hotly tipped to make the move to Old Trafford, could be joining the club on their pre-season tour, which gets underway on Thursday.

Macheda wrote: “Time to sleep before training...hope to see wesley snejeder [sic] here soon!”

“Can I not say that?” he added.

Sneijder has been at the centre of ample speculation about his future, with United currently looking to replace the retired Paul Scholes.

The likes of Luka Modric and Samir Nasri have both been mentioned as potential candied to fill the void left by Scholes, but Chelsea and Manchester City appear to have won the race for the duo.

David Gill was reported to have stayed behind after United travelled to America, to finalise a deal worth £35 million for Sneijder.

The deal would also make him United's highest paid player, ahead of Wayne Rooney.
