Birmingham boss Chris Hughton has appointed former Bristol Rovers manager Paul Trollope as first-team coach.

The 39-year-old was sacked by Rovers in December, but had been on gardening leave until Thursday when his contract was mutually terminated.

His appointment at St Andrew's is Hughton's first as Blues boss.

In his five years in charge at the Memorial Stadium, Trollope guided the Pirates to a Johnstone's Paint Trophy final and promotion from League Two.

Trollope is a former Wales international midfielder and began his playing career in the West Country with Swindon.

Trollope will fly out to join the Blues squad at their pre-season training camp in Cork on Friday.
