Malky Mackay got off to a winning start as Cardiff manager with a 1-0 friendly victory over Charlton.
French trialist Rudy Gestade fired the only goal of the game after 25 minutes in southern Spain.
Mackay changed his entire starting XI at half-time and was happy with the workout.
"Considering the heat and a bumpy pitch, I am delighted," he said.
"I am proud of the attitude and the effort of every one of them.
"Our hard work showed because overall we were a little bit sharper than Charlton."
