Bournemouth defender Ryan Garry has been forced to retire from professional football due to persistent injury.

The defender, just 27 years of age, rose through the ranks at Arsenal but struggled with injury during his time in north London.

Garry moved to the Cherries in 2007 and, despite enduring further periods in the treatment room, made 86 appearances for the club, including 12 last season. He will remain at Dean Court in a coaching capacity and will oversee the reserve team.

Cherries boss Lee Bradbury told the Bournemouth Echo: "It is heartbreaking for Ryan and has been a very hard decision for him.

"Medically though, it hasn't looked good so he has decided to come across to the coaching staff."
