Teenage winger Alex Chamberlain has given Southampton an injury scare ahead of the new Championship season.
The highly-rated 17-year-old limped off with an ankle injury just before half-time in Wednesday's 2-2 friendly draw with West Brom.
Saints boss Nigel Adkins told BBC Radio Solent: "We'll take all the right precautions with Alex, because he's a very important player for us."
Chamberlain continues to be linked with a move to the Premier League, with Arsenal thought to be at the front of the queue.
The England Under-21 international stunned Saints last week by admitting he wanted a move to the top flight, but Adkins remains determined to keep him.
"The speculation has been going on for a while, and we can't do anything about it," added Adkins. "But he's put in some great performances in pre-season. Alex is very professional in what he does, and that will continue."
