Scunthorpe United winger Jimmy Ryan is looking to finish The Iron's pre-season preparations with a win against Barnsley in what will be the former Accrington Stanley man's first home fixture since his move to Glanford Park.

Alan Knill's men have been in good form in pre-season, beating Bottesford Town, Winterton Rangers, Gainsborough Trinity and Rotherham United, with Saturday's meeting with Barnsley the last of the warm-up games.

And Ryan, who opened his account for Scunthorpe against Rotherham, is looking forward to his first home game for the club. "It would be good to finish pre-season on a high with a win against Barnsley," he said. "Sometimes in pre-season a win isn't everything, it's about how you play.

"Against Rotherham, we played well and also won, which is a bonus. Against Barnsley I'd be ready to play again. I'll take however long the manager gives me. If I manage to get a full 90 minutes that will be great, but the manager knows best. Whatever time I get I want to do well and work hard for the team."

Ryan scored his first goal for Scunthorpe against Rotherham following a slight groin injury and the 22-year-old was delighted to finally get his name on the scoresheet. "I was happy with the performance and pleased with my goal.

"The lads were all pleased with the way they played on the night. In pre-season so far we've been working towards passing the ball and playing football the right way. It's all gelling together now and I think that showed against Rotherham.

"We just all worked hard together as a team, we closed down together and kept the ball well."
