Preston winger Keith Treacy has joined neighbours Burnley for an undisclosed fee, signing a three-year deal.

The Republic of Ireland international, 22, joined North End in February 2010 from Blackburn and quickly established himself as a first-team regular at Deepdale.

The winger made 58 appearances for the Lilywhites scoring nine goals, one of which, a marvellous long-range strike against Crystal Palace, earned him the club's 'Goal of the Season' award last term.

But Preston's financial problems meant that they had to accept Burnley's bid.

Club chairman Maurice Lindsay issued a statement on the club's official website on Sunday, stating: "We made our manager [Phil Brown] aware of the fact that we had a significant cash offer from Burnley for Keith.

"No-one wants to sell players who have any quality, as Keith does, but we are in the harsh reality of trying to stay alive."
