Tottenham have reportedly made a formal approach for Arsenal target Chris Samba, tabling a cash-plus-player proposal to Blackburn.

According to The Sun, Spurs have offered a deal worth around £10 million, while their north London rivals wait in the wings.

Spurs, it has been claimed, are willing to offload any of Jermain Defoe, Robbie Keane, David Bentley or Sebastian Bassong - as well as a lump sum - although Rovers value Samba at closer to £12 million.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have been closely linked to the 27-year-old for some time as Arsene Wenger looks for reinforcements for his vulnerable defence.

The Arsenal boss is keen to bring in an imposing centre-back with experience in the Barclays Premier League, and has already seen an offer rejected for Everton's Phil Jagielka.

Reports have suggested the Gunners will return to Everton with an improved bid, after their initial £10 million offer was disdainfully dismissed.

Arsenal have also been credited with interest in Gary Cahill, who is said to be on the radar of Spurs boss Harry Redknapp.
