Roy Hodgson admits West Brom defender Steven Reid is his biggest injury concern ahead of Sunday's Barclays Premier League opener with Manchester United at The Hawthorns.

Reid, who impressed at right-back last season, is battling to recover from a torn calf suffered 11 days ago.

Hodgson said: "It will be two weeks this weekend since Reid picked up his injury. Whether that is long enough to repair the damage I couldn't say. The sports science people are doing their very best and they're optimistic but he'd be my biggest concern."

Hodgson is confident striker Peter Odemwingie (ankle) and midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu (abdominal strain) will be fit to face the Red Devils.

He said: "I'm very optimistic both will be okay for Sunday and I'll just have to wait and see what another couple of days rest does for them."

Winger Jerome Thomas is also back in training after the dead leg which forced him out of Albion's final pre-season friendly with Parma.

Midfielder Paul Scharner should also be fit after being withdrawn at half-time against Parma as a precautionary measure because of an Achilles twinge.
