Tottenham could renew their interest in Villarreal's Giuseppe Rossi as Athletic Bilbao hold firm over Fernando Llorente, it has been claimed.

According to The Guardian, Bilbao will not consider selling Llorente for anything less than his £31.6 million release clause, which may lead Spurs back to Rossi.

Llorente has been a target for Spurs for some time now, but chairman Daniel Levy has made a concerted effort to bring the Spanish striker to White Hart Lane in recent weeks after missing out on Mirko Vucinic to Juventus.

However, Spurs reportedly now face an uphill task in their pursuit of the 26-year-old with Bilbao adamant their prized-asset will not be leaving on the cheap.

Rossi, meanwhile, has also been on the Spurs radar for a number of months, with the north London club having failed in an attempt to sign him in January.

Spurs had an offer of £18 million for the Italian rejected by Villarreal, as was confirmed by Harry Redknapp earlier this summer.

"Rossi's top drawer," the Spurs boss told Sky Sports News. "He's a clever player.

"He gets it into feet, he holds the ball up, he scores goals, and he's the Italy centre-forward now.

"We tried to get him last year and I think the fee was £18million. That looks cheap now but he was a player we nearly had last year."
