Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner is staying at Arsenal for now, with Arsene Wenger choosing the 23-year-old for his Champions League line up against Udinese.

"In his interview Bendtner said he was gone. But I checked, and he's not gone at all!,” Wenger quipped.

"I promised I'd let him go if he found the right club and that hasn't changed. When I make a promise, I keep it.

"But if he doesn't find the right opportunity, he'll stay and fight for his place like everybody else. He looks sharp in training."

Newcastle were front runners to secure Bendtner’s signature, with the striker valued by his father and agent at €11 million.

Bendtner has made 98 appareances for Arsenal and scored 22 goals since signing with the London club in 2005. Newcastle are on the lookout for a striker, and Bendnter is reportedly at the top of Pardew’s list of possibilities.

Borussia Dortmund were also interested in the Arsenal man, but Newcastle were thought to be more willing to pay the required sum, with leftover money from the £35 million sale of Andy Carroll to Liverpool in January.

But with Newcastle yet to make a bid on Bendtner, he certainly looks set to stay with Arsenal for at least the next two weeks.
