Scunthorpe have snapped up goalkeeper Sam Johnstone from Manchester United.

Iron boss Alan Knill moved for the 18-year-old on an initial one-month loan after regular number one Josh Lillis was sidelined with a knee injury.

"He's a really confident lad and is a good size,'' Knill told Iron Player.

"When he walked in he called me, the manager, 'pal'!

"We had a few options available to us but we'd seen Sam play in the FA Youth Cup last year and were impressed.

"We phoned Manchester United and they didn't hesitate.''
