Jimmy Smith's stoppage-time strike earned struggling Leyton Orient a deserved point at Colchester as the sides played out a 1-1 draw.

Ian Henderson's low shot struck the foot of the post for Colchester in the eighth minute, while Orient had a penalty shout turned down when former U's player Kevin Lisbie fell under Ben Coker's challenge in the area.

Colchester went ahead two minutes before half-time through Anthony Wordsworth, who fired in from the edge of the area after Scott Cuthbert had only partially cleared Lloyd James' free-kick.

Dean Cox's shot struck the inside of the post for Orient in the early stages of the second half, as the visitors pushed.

O's keeper Ben Alnwick palmed Brian Wilson's deflected cross away from underneath his own crossbar and the U's had a penalty claim turned down when Michail Antonio fell under Scott Cuthbert's challenge.

But Cox somehow blasted over from close range for Orient before Smith tapped in from substitute George Porter's low cross in the first minute of stoppage-time, to earn the O's a point.
