Leeds have fought off competition from European clubs to sign Finland midfielder Mika Vayrynen on a one-year deal which includes a further 12-month option.

The 29-year-old has earned 54 caps for his country, scoring five goals in the process, and arrives just days after fellow countryman Mikael Forssell.

Vayrynen has spent the last three seasons with Dutch side Heerenveen, whom he first joined in 2001 before a three-year spell with PSV Eindhoven between 2005-08.

Leeds boss Simon Grayson told the club's official website: "We're delighted to sign Mika. There were good offers from other clubs on the continent but he has turned them down because of his ambition to play for Leeds and be successful here.

"He's an experienced midfielder who has won over 50 caps for his country and has a fantastic pedigree.

"He has played with PSV and had a successful season with Heerenveen last season.

"He can play as an attacking midfielder or as a holding midfielder and he's delighted to get the opportunity to come here."
