Kenny Dalglish believes the weekend's encounter with Tottenham will provide an early indication as to how far his Liverpool team has progressed in recent months.

White Hart Lane will play host to Liverpool on Sunday lunchtime, as the Reds look to make it another happy visit to north London.

Dalglish's side took all three points when they visited Arsenal earlier in the campaign, and will face a Tottenham side searching for a first league win at home this term.

And, despite a slow start, the Liverpool boss knows Spurs will be a side his team is likely to be in direct competition with come the business end of the season in May.

"We have to make sure when we go to Tottenham on Sunday that we put in an acceptable performance, only this time make sure we get the required result," said Dalglish.

"We have to respect Tottenham because we know they have some good players and they are a good team, but we have to concentrate on ourselves.

"They are one of the teams we have to look to target this season to make sure we finish above them.

“We are working to build something here and I think the performances so far have been really encouraging and we’ll try to take that forward and continue that as the season progresses.”
