Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes believes that Franck Ribery can play as both a striker and a winger, after the Frenchman was connected with a move to Arsenal over the summer.

"[If we have problems in the striking department] Then Franck Ribery can play as a striker. Take a look at Barcelona, who get along fine without a central striker,” Heynckes said.

Arsenal were a shock possible destination for Ribery during the transfer window, but a deal never eventuated.

While pundits and fans alike would have argued that Ribery would be far too expensive and old for Arsenal, Arsene Wenger made five mammoth five signings on deadline day, worth around £35 million in total, and the Gunners manager may decide to bolster his squad even further in January if needed.

Ribery has scored 34 goals for Bayern Munich since moving to the club from Marseille in 2007, and Arsenal would no doubt like a player who could be flexible and play in more than one position.
