Gills swoop for Carter

Gillingham have signed former Charlton full-back Joe Carter until the end of the season.

Carter was released by the Addicks in the summer after 10 years at The Valley - although the 19-year-old never played a first-team game for the club.

He spent time on trial with the Gills both this term and last and has been snapped up by manager Andy Hessenthaler as cover at the back.

"He's got a nice left foot, he's good on the ball and he's an intelligent player," Hessenthaler told Gillingham's official website.
