Gunners legend calls for Fabregas and Nasri replacements

Arsenal legend Martin Keown has admitted that Arsene Wenger should have prepared better for Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri’s exits, with the former defender arguing that apt replacements are desperately needed to turn the club around.

While Wenger insisted all summer that both Nasri and Fabregas were staying at North London, at the end of August they moved to Manchester City and Barcelona respectively.


 

And after Arsenal suffered a terrible start to the season, with the club having to come back from their worst start in over 58 years, Keown believes the reasoning for this is that Wenger wasn’t ready to lose two of his best players.

“This is a period of recovery, he’s having to start things all over again,” Keown said. “It appears he’s been caught short with Fabregas and Nasri leaving.

“We all seemed to know that was going to happen but he appeared reluctant to let them go and the building process seemed to start very late on transfer deadline day.

“Behind the scenes they are building younger players for the future, but there’s a naivety there with some of their defending.”

Arsenal lost to Tottenham 2-1 yesterday, with Spurs looking the better side and staking their claim on a possible Champions League place. This weekend Arsenal face Sunderland at home, and will be looking to comeback and get their season back on track.
