Reported Chelsea target Daniele De Rossi is 'convinced' he can agree a new contract with Roma.

The Italian's future at the Stadio Olimpico has been the subject of frequent speculation in recent months as his current deal nears expiration.

It was initially suggested that the 28-year-old had been keen to leave Rome with the likes of Chelsea interested, but he has since denied that is the case.

However, the current stumbling block regards De Rossi's wage demands, although he rejects that he is wants a whopping €6.5 million per annum.

"Some people have spoken about figures which are not entirely correct," De Rossi said.

"This has not impressed me, but I will speak to my agent about my contract, not here in the press room.

"We have not been able to agree, but I am convinced we will reach a solution to suit everyone."

De Rossi had reportedly been identified by Andre Villas-Boas as a potential replacement for Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien, who was sidelined during pre-season with serious knee injury.

The Chelsea boss, however, failed to bring a player to Stamford Bridge to fill the void left by Essien, but did bolster his midfield ranks with Oriol Romeu and Raul Meireles.
