Manager Eddie Howe has assured Burnley fans he will do all he can to keep top goalscorer Jay Rodriguez.

The England Under-21s international has scored eight goals in all competitions so far this season and Howe recognises his importance to the Clarets.

He told BBC Radio Lancashire: "Jay is someone who you'd want to build your team around - a fantastic talent. He's only going to get better, we'll certainly be fighting tooth and nail to keep him with us."

Howe's assistant Jason Tindall added: "The sky's the limit for Jay Rodriguez. He's a fantastic athlete, terrific in the air and scores all types of goals as a centre-forward.

"He'll play at the top level one day, but we've just got to try and make sure we keep him at Burnley for as long as possible."
