Arsenal target Riccardo Montolivo is likely to leave Fiorentina in January, his agent has confirmed.

The Italian international's contract expires in June, and the Viola are desperate to keep him at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

However, with Montolivo reluctant to put pen to paper, Fiorentina could be forced to cash-in on the 26-year-old when the transfer window reopens.

Arsenal have been frequently linked with the midfielder over the past 12 months, and reports have suggested Arsene Wenger would make a move for Montolivo in the New Year.

The Arsenal boss is still keen to further bolster his midfield ranks following the summer acquisitions of Yossi Benayoun and Mikel Arteta.

However, according to Montolivo's representative, AC Milan is currently his most likely destination.

"I think the experience of Montolivo at Fiorentina can be resolved without verbal confrontations and we'll continue with the sale of the player in January," said Claudio Pasqualin.

"I think the club AC Milan are most interested in the midfielder's performance and I think with an offer of four million euros, plus possibly the loan of a player, he may leave the Firenza in the next session of the market."
