Mancini seeking new City deal

With just over a year remaining on his current contract, Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini reveals he has yet to enter into negotiations over a new deal, but says he has his heart set on building a long career at the Etihad Stadium.

The 46-year-old Italian tactician has enjoyed a successful spell with the Citizens since succeeding Mark Hughes in December 2009, and admits he would like nothing more than to extend his stay in England.

"I would like to stay here for many years in the future, but it is not important, my contract," he said. "After this year I have one more year and I don't have a problem with this.

"I haven't talked to the club, but at the moment it is not important."


 

With attention fully focused on tonight's UEFA Champions League encounter against Villarreal, Mancini knows the importance of a victory, having accumulated just one point from their opening two group games.

Domestically, City have been in fine form, with their weekend win over Aston Villa seeing them leapfrog rivals Manchester United, to sit pretty at the top of the Barclays Premier League table.

"My feeling here is good," Mancini continued. "I would like to stay here, but in football every week it can change.

"If you lose two or three games, that can change all, but we are working well."
