Blackburn manager Steve Kean will make a personal intervention in hope of convincing Junior Hoilett to extend his stay at Ewood Park.

The Canadian forward's current contract expires at the end of the season, and he has been linked with possible moves to Newcastle or Tottenham.

Rovers, though, are desperate to keep the 21-year-old at the club, and Kean will do what he can to ensure that happens.

"I was told that the directors were dealing with that," said Kean when asked about the contract situation.

"I don't know what stage it's at. I'm having a meeting with [sporting director] Simon Hunt to see where we are with his representatives.

"I'll also speak to Junior to find out where we're at because we need to be pushing this over the line."

He added: "I thought all terms and conditions were agreed. That's what I was led to believe so I don't know what stage it's at."

Hoilett has starred in a struggling Blackburn side this term, and has two goals to his name from 13 appearances.
