Blackburn boss Steve Kean believes Tottenham and Newcastle target Junior Hoilett should only leave Ewood Park for a 'top-three or top-four club'.

The Canadian forward is currently stalling over signing a new contract with Rovers and, should he fail to reach an agreement, Hoilett will be able to leave on a free transfer next summer.

Blackburn, though, are intent on keeping hold of the 21-year-old, despite Spurs and Newcastle reportedly monitoring his progress.

It has been claimed both Spurs and Newcastle could make cut-price bids for Hoilett in January as both Harry Redknapp and Alan Pardew scour the market for reinforcements.

But, says Kean, Hoilett should set his sights as high as possible, and has the ability to play in the Champions League, given the opportunity.

“I’ve told him that if he ever leaves the club, he should be going to a top-three or top-four club," Kean revealed.

“I don’t know if he’s at the stage yet that if he went to a club like that he’d play consistently.

“But we can give him games where he’s going to feature and be a match-winner for us.”

Despite Newcastle currently occupying third spot in the Barclays Premier League, Spurs are seemingly more likely to be at the business end of the table come the end of the season.

This could mean Hoilett favouring a switch to White Hart Lane rather than St James' Park, should both teams register their interest.
