Arsene Wenger has been in contact with Borussia Monchengladbach over the proposed signing of Marco Reus, the manager of the German club has confirmed.

The 22-year-old playmaker is regarded as hot property and, thus, is known to be on the radar of numerous top clubs throughout Europe.

It was reported last week by The Guardian that both Arsenal and Manchester United had made their interest known in Reus prior to the end of last season.

But, after the young German scored the goal to keep Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga, the interest of the Barclays Premier League duo waned somewhat.

However, Wenger has since acted on the advice of former Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann and directly contacted Lucien Favre about Reus.

"Yes! Jens Lehmann gave him a tip to watch Marco. Then Arsene called me," the Foals' boss told Bild.

"I know Arsene very well and told him the truth: Marco is a very, very interesting player. But I am coach of Borussia and want to keep him."

Whether or not Wenger decides to make a formal approach for Reus remains to be seen, but the Arsenal boss is still keen to bring midfield reinforcements to the Emirates Stadium.

Lille star Eden Hazard and Rennes enforcer Yann M'Vila have also been frequently linked with the Gunners over recent months.
