Highly-rated Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen has revealed he rejected the opportunity to join Manchester City in order to further his development at the Amsterdam Arena.

The 19-year-old Dane is regarded as one of the most exciting young talents currently operating in European football and, thus, has been linked with numerous clubs of some repute.

Liverpool are said to be keen on Eriksen, while AC Milan and Chelsea have also been linked with moves for his signature.

However, none of these clubs are thought to have made an official approach for the youngster but, he claims, City did attempt to bring him to the Etihad Stadium.

"My agent told me about interest from Manchester City, but it is nothing I thought about," said Eriksen.

"There is no point moving to a club where I will sit on the bench.

"If I moved to City there would be a big risk."

Eriksen has scored five times in 17 appearances for Ajax this season, and has impressed all and sundry with a number of cultured displays for Frank de Boer's side.
