Arsenal are reportedly chasing Rennes midfielder Tongo Hamed Doumbia.

The 22-year-old is regarded as one of the finest young prospects in French football, although has yet to receive international recognition from Laurent Blanc.

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal scouts have been impressed with £8 million-rated Doumbia, and have alerted Arsene Wenger to his talents.

The Arsenal boss is said to see Rennes' valuation of the versatile midfield maestro as reasonable, and a January bid could now be in the offing.

Wenger is known to be keen to further reinforce his midfield when the transfer window opens, and appears to be looking to Ligue 1 with particular interest.

Along with Doumbia, Arsenal are also tracking his Rennes teammate Yann M'Vila, who is expected to leave the Route de Lorient next summer.

Meanwhile, the Gunners have also been linked with fleet-footed Sochaux star Marvin Martin, Marseille winger Andre Ayew and Lille wonderkid Eden Hazard.
