Liverpool's capture of USA starlet Marc Pelosi shows they can compete with the world's top clubs for the best young talent, says Academy director Frank McParland.

It was announced last week that the Reds had beaten off serious competition to sign Pelosi, who lead the USA at the Under-17 World Cup in the summer.

And, says McParland, bringing Pelosi to Anfield represents quite a coup for Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish and Co.

"I have to say I am delighted to welcome him here," the Academy supremo told the official Liverpool website.

"I think the signing shows that we are now competing with all of the top teams for the most talented youngsters across the globe.

"There were a lot of sides interested both home and abroad - as well as in the USA - so to sign him is a bit of a coup for us."

He added: "He can operate in both positions down the left flank as well as in a central role if required."

Meanwhile, Liverpool have agreed to sign Seyi Ojo from MK Dons for a fee reported to be in the region of £2 million.

Ojo has impressed for the England under-16s and adds to a wealth of exciting youngsters in the Liverpool ranks.
