O’Neill may bring back Gyan

Sunderland’s new manager Martin O’Neill has revealed he is considering recalling Asamoah Gyan.

The Ghanaian striker moved from the Stadium of Light on loan to United Arab Emirates side Al-Ain after a falling out with the recently dismissed Steve Bruce.

O’Neill believes that the Black Cats attacking options are severely limited wants to use all resources available to him.

“It's absolutely something that I'll address," said O'Neill when asked if he would recall Gyan.

“I have to talk to Niall [Quinn] about exactly where we stand on that. His position will definitely be looked at.

“He started off brilliantly, then things tapered away a little bit, so the potential is there. I don't know the lad at all, but I will have a look at it."

Sunderland have a shortage of strikers at the moment as both Connor Wickham and Frazier Campbell are a while away from a return.

Nicklas Bendtner, on-loan from Arsenal, is a doubt for this weekend’s relegation six-pointer with Blackburn Rovers with a groin problem.

“Nicklas has a groin problem and we'll see how he is towards the weekend,” said O’Neill of the Dane.

“But if the game was today he wouldn't make it as it stands.”

This leaves the Northern Irishman with only youngsters Ji Dong-Won and Ryan Noble.

Although he may decide to follow Bruce’s lead and push Stephane Sessegnon further up, or even Kieran Richardson.
