Manchester United went some way to atoning for their midweek defeat to Basel by thumping lowly Wolves 4-1 at Old Trafford.
Nani and Wayne Rooney each netted a brace for Sir Alex Ferguson's side in their first outing since crashing out of the Champions League in Switzerland on Wednesday night.
Jonny Evans was named in place of Nemanja Vidic after the Serbian defender was ruled out for the season with a knee injury, while Rio Ferdinand was named captain in his absence.
It took only 17 minutes for the home side to register a something to show their supremacy as Nani netted for the first time since September with a fine strike from 20 yards.
Rooney, also without a league goal for two months, doubled United's advantage some 10 minutes later with a low drive, before Steven Fletcher claimed one back for Wolves shortly after the interval.
United, however, were able to ride out the brief resurgance from Wolves, and Nani restored a two goal lead when he tapped home after some neat interchange between Phil Jones and Antonio Valencia.
The latter provided the assist once again as Rooney volleyed in his 13th goal of the season to see United close the gap on league leaders Manchester City to two points.
