Sebastian Larsson ensured Martin O'Neill's reign as Sunderland boss started with a victory as the Black Cats came from behind to see off Blackburn 2-1.
The Sweden international curled home an injury-time free-kick to snatch the points after David Vaughan had levelled with an 84th-minute piledriver.
Simon Vukcevic had headed the visitors in to a 17th-minute lead after Keiren Westwood could only parry Chris Samba's shot, and Scott Dann saw a 41st-minute strike ruled out for a foul by Samba on the keeper.
