Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has reportedly told playmaker Mesut Ozil his days at the club are numbered should his poor performances continue, with Liverpool keeping tabs according to The People.

The German came under fire following Madrid's El Classico defeat to Barcelona, and despite having only been brought following last year's World Cup, Mourinho has threatened to part with the 23-year-old if his performances don't improve.

Ozil made 28 assists in all competitions last season, but has reportedly become dispensable in his manager's eyes.

Reports are suggesting that Liverpool will be alerted by Mesut's uncertain future at the Bernabeu, and potentially plot a bid at the end of the season.

Liverpool's director of football Damien Comolli is keeping an eye on developments concerning Ozil, who would provide another creative option in Kenny Dalglish's midfield.

Reportedly, Liverpool's attempts to sign Ozil will be strengthened if they can qualify for the Champions League this season, however, their hopes of snapping up the former Werder Bremen man won't be dashed if they fail to finish in the Premier League top four.
