Manchester United are keen on signing Patrico Rodriguez as they look to delay their bid for Nicolas Gaitan, according to talkSPORT.

United have been heavily linked with the Benfica man of late, but are unlikely to make bid in the upcoming January transfer window.

Instead, United will turn their attention to Argentine Rodriguez, to bolster their midfield.

Injuries to Tom Cleverley and Anderson, coupled with the illness of Darren Fletcher, leaves United short in midfield going into the New Year.

The likes of Benfica, Udinese and Marseille have all reportedly approached Rodriguez's club Independiente, and United have been alerted by the interest from afar.

The Primera Division side are hoping that news of interest from Old Trafford will spark an auction for the 21-year-old, who they value at £10 million.
