Bolton Wanderers ended a run of five successive defeats and sent Blackburn Rovers bottom of the Barclays Premier League after edging a crucial relegation six-pointer at Ewood Park.

Mark Davies' goal after just four minutes gave The Trotters the lead, before Nigel Reo-Coker doubled the visitors’ advantage on the half hour.

Rovers improved in the second period, with top scorer Yakubu netting with a quarter of the game remaining.

But Steve Kean’s men were unable to salvage a point, with Chris Samba’s header deep in stoppage time flying wide of the flawless Jussi Jaaskelainen’s goal.

The result lifts Bolton off the bottom of the Premier League, with the pressure continuing to swell on manager Kean, who has guided Rovers to just two league wins all season.
