Best strike enough for Newcastle

Leon Best edged Newcastle past QPR with his first goal in four months as Mark Hughes's reign started with a 1-0 defeat.

Best claimed his fourth goal of the season with a neat finish from Ryan Taylor's 37th-minute pass to ease the Magpies back into the Barclays Premier League's top six.

However, Alan Pardew's men were unconvincing at times and Hughes will have left Tyneside ruing missed chances, with Jay Bothroyd particularly culpable, and the excellence of home keeper Tim Krul.
