Real Madrid midfielder Esteban Granero will not be joining Liverpool in January, it has been claimed, but will instead continue to fight for his place at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Spaniard has been frequently linked with a move away from the club in recent weeks, having made only four appearances for Real in La Liga this season.

It was reported on Tuesday by The Mirror that Liverpool had opened talks with Real regarding the January loan signing of the 24-year-old as Kenny Dalglish looks to bolster his squad.

It has even previously been claimed that Granero would consider a move to Anfield should the opportunity arise, but it would now appear he will be staying in Madrid.

"Granero is going to continue with Real Madrid, 100%," a source close to the plait told the International Business Times.

Granero joined Real in in the summer of 2009 from Getafe but, as of yet, has failed to make a significant impact for Los Blancos.

The former Spain under-21 international has made just 16 starts in the league in almost three years with Real, and has played only six times in all competitions this season.
