Reports were rife today that Liverpool offered Manchester City Andy Carroll in straight swap for want-away striker Carlos Tevez.
Roberto Mancini’s club apparently dismissed the offer out of hand, but the whole episode got GMF thinking – who should Manchester City swap for Tevez?
Now these aren’t deals that are set to happen and the players mentioned aren’t necessarily available, they are just suitable replacements for a player of the Argentine’s calibre.
GMF decided that five players would be enough and some may be for reasons you disagree with or based on assumptions you think are incorrect.
Well, that is what below the line is for and you can tell us what you think by leaving likes and comments.
And so, we begin….
1) Franck Ribery, Bayern Munich
Ribery is having one of his best seasons in Bavaria and possesses many attributes to Tevez. One of these is his hard-running ability – the France international is a workhorse and will give all to the cause, much the same as Tevez will when he actually gets on the pitch. City need creative and goalscoring help in the run-in, something Ribery brings in large quantities. Bayern could also be one of the few clubs able to pay Tevez’s wages
2) Kaka, Real Madrid
The Brazil star has not had the best of times during his spell at Real, resulting in a number of transfer rumours surrounding him. He is obviously a player of the highest calibre but could need a change of scenery to reignite his career, which is stalling among sporadic appearances under Jose Mourinho. Both Tevez and City are likely to prefer a deal that takes him out of the Premier League and Kaka could provide creative support to David Silva at the Etihad Stadium.
3) Hulk, Porto
Ok, Tevez is not going attract the £83million world-record fee that Porto want for the Brazil international but, then again, nobody is going to pay it. The Portuguese champions could be tempted to enter into a straight swap if they were to get a player the quality of Tevez to replace Hulk, but issues over wages would probably arise. Hulk and Tevez have similarities in that they are determined and physical forwards, the former would also provide some added goal threat to City’s forward line.
4) Javier Pastore, PSG
Another Argentinian who went for big money, this was a surprise signing at the time and Pastore has since voiced a hint of unhappiness in the French capital. Pastore is an incredibly athletic attacking whom scores spectacular goals and would fit in nicely to City’s line-up. PSG have been linked with a move for Tevez in the past and a swap such as this could mean both players are happy, while the clubs do not lose out on quality.
5)David Villa, Barcelona
This would be a controversial one, but not as extremely farfetched as it may first seem. There were rumours late last year that suggested Pep Guardiola had lost patience with Villa and he would be allowed to leave. Barcelona denied this but Villa had been getting fewer and fewer starts under Guardiola since the start of the season. A move would definitely appeal to Tevez, as it would every player, but Barcelona would expectedly try to recoup some of the £34million they paid for him. Villa broke his leg at the World Club Cup and is set to miss the rest of the season, but Tevez is unlikely to play if he stays at City so not a lot would change.
What do you think? Do you think these players would be suitable swaps for Tevez? Leave a comment and let us know…
