Wigan boss Roberto Martinez is convinced his side's fighting spirit will help them survive in the Barclays Premier League after earning a hard-fought 2-1 win at Bolton.

James McArthur's second goal in three games gave the Latics a priceless victory over their relegation rivals after Gary Caldwell's opener had been cancelled out by Mark Davies.

"We need as many players like James from now until the end of the season. There are many things we can control but you need the belief, arrogance and bravery in your make-up," Martinez said. "It's easy to play when you're in the top six but in our position you need an extra bit of mettle. We know what it takes and we will fight with our lives to carry on in this league."
