The 32-year-old Mali international midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to England after the emerging talents from the Catalan club's youth academy continue to push for first-team inclusion at the Camp Nou.
Reds boss Kenny Dalglish is a known admirer of Keita, who boasts a wealth of experience having made over 100 appearances for Barcelona, and winning 14 trophies since making his £12million move from Sevilla back in 2008.
The box-to-box enforcer could be on his way to Anfield in a £5million deal this summer after nearly moving to Merseyside in January, but Liverpool will face stiff competition from Premier League rivals Newcastle.
Keita is under contract at Barcelona until 2014 and will command wages in the region of £80,000-a-week - a figure that is within both Liverpool and Newcastle's respective budgets - but will rule out reported interest from smaller sides in France and Italy.
With two Champions League winners medals and three La Liga titles to his name, Keita would be a valuable addition for either club, and looks set to become the subject of a summer transfer battle between the two sides.
