Arsenal captain Robin van Persie is 'very happy' in London and is not solely motivated by the pursuit of a higher salary, according to the club's chairman Peter Hill-Wood.

Van Persie is out of contract at the end of next season and, as of yet, has not given any clear indication that he will remain at the Emirates Stadium beyond the terms of his current deal.

The 28-year-old will sit down with Arsenal at the end of the current campaign before making any decision on his future, but reports have claimed he has already spoken to Manchester City about a move to the Etihad Stadium.

According to The National, City could offer Van Persie over double what Arsenal are prepared to pay in order to keep the Dutch striker in north London.

Hill-Wood, though, does not believe money will necessarily decide the destination of Van Persie, and feels maintaining a happy home life is of equal importance to the Gunners talisman.

“I think Robin and his family are very happy in London and I don’t think he is solely motivated by money as some players are," Hill-Wood told the Daily Star.
