Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard recognises they have a "mountain to climb" in terms of Champions League qualification but the team is determined to fight until it is beyond their grasp.

Kenny Dalglish's men are 10 points behind fourth-placed Arsenal and with 10 matches of the season left it appears a return to Europe's elite club competition is out of their reach. Gerrard will not concede defeat until the Barclays Premier League table tells him otherwise but he knows they have to put together a consistent run of wins to stand a chance.

"It is a mountain to climb but at Liverpool you never give up," said the 31-year-old. "We need to just win as many games as we can and see where it takes us but we won't give up until it is impossible."
