Brilliant Bilbao too good for United

Wayne Rooney's 27th goal of the season proved to be little consolation for Manchester United as they were beaten 2-1 by Athletic Bilbao and crashed out of the Europa League 5-3 on aggregate.

Already trailing 3-2 from the first leg, United were effectively out of the competition when Fernando Llorente scored a brilliant opener for Bilbao.

Oscar de Marcos netted a second after the break, although at least Rooney limited the damage 10 minutes from time.
