Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini took the blame as his side crashed out of the Europa League last night - despite beating Sporting.

City came from behind to win the second leg, having been two goals down after after a below par first half half - but were eliminated on away goals.

Manchester United were also knocked out of the competition by a brilliant Bilbao side, with goals from Oscar de Marcos and Fernando Llorente.

The result brings an end to what Sir Alex Ferguson admitted has been a "disappointing season" in Europe for his side and the Premier League.
