Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic will see out the remainder of his contract at Old Trafford, according to agent Silvano Martina.

The 30-year-old Serbian stopper has been the subject of much speculation in recent months, with reports suggesting he had become unhappy with life in England.

Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson has frequently refuted claims that Vidic could leave the reigning Premier League champions this summer, with Barcelona and Real Madrid both touted as potential destinations.

However, speaking to tuttomercatoweb.com earlier this week, Martina said: "Vidic was hurt in November, was operated on, and he still has two years of the contract and I do not think that he'll be leaving Manchester."

Vidic's absence has been a huge blow to Manchester United this season, but with the club currently sitting proudly at the top of the Premier League table, three points clear of nearest rivals Manchester City, they could still go on to retain the title this year.

The recent signings of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones have increased competition for places in defence, with Rio Ferdinand and Jonny Evans also providing more experience at the back.

That said, the return of Vidic will still be welcomed, particularly after the defender confirmed earlier this week that he is on schedule to return from his latest knee injury in time for pre-season.
