Jones: I'm ready for Everton

Brad Jones insists he is ready for this weekend's FA Cup semi-final with Everton, despite his lack of first-team football at Liverpool.

The 30-year-old goalkeeper is set to start between the posts at Wembley on Saturday with first-choice Pepe Reina and back-up Alexander Doni both suspended.

Jones struggled for opportunities at Anfield after joining from Middlesbrough two seasons ago, and has not played for the first-team since a low-key Europa League game against Utrecht in December 2010.

But the Reds' third-choice keeper was thrust into the spotlight at Ewood Park on Tuesday and now faces the biggest game of his career.

"It hasn't sunk in yet, it's been a bit of a shock - not something I was expecting," he told BBC Sport. "Now it's a case of getting focused and ready.

"It's a big game at the weekend and we just have to be prepared. I've trained as hard as I can and hopefully that will stand me in good stead."

Liverpool have appealed Doni's dismissal for hauling down Junior Hoilett against Blackburn, and a decision is expected on Thursday.

Should that be unsuccessful, manager Kenny Dalglish will recall 21-year-old Hungarian Peter Gulacsi from a loan spell at Hull City to act as cover for Jones.
