Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen has not ruled out staying in Amsterdam this summer, despite speculation linking him with a Premier League move to Arsenal and Tottenham.

Sky Sports reports how the 25-year-old Belgian international has long been linked with a move away from the Eredivisie outfit, even though he still has a year to run on his existing contract.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is a known admirer of Vertonghen, and could renew his attempts to bring him to the Emirates Stadium when the transfer window reopens in June.

Meanwhile, Arsenal's north London rivals Spurs have also been credited with an interest in strengthening their defensive department at White Hart Lane, with a player who has already said he would be open to a foreign adventure.

However, any hopes either club may have had of securing Vertonghen's signature will have been dealt a blow amid reports La Liga giants Barcelona are also monitoring his situation.

Interest is certainly high in the Ajax star, but speaking to Voetbal Primeur, the defender revealed that he could opt to stay where he is.

"Everyone has already made their peace with the fact that I've gone, but I've not gone yet," explained Vertonghen. "I have a year left on my contract and I haven't decided anything. I'm still at Ajax."
